Tongshan, Jiangsu: "Two-handed" for production and supply, farmers' income is guaranteed, and plant protection drones show their skills

2022-05-05

On the eve of "May Day", more than 20 self-propelled boom sprayers and plant protection drones "jointly" carried out the mixed spraying of medicine and fertilizer in the high-yielding square of 10,000 mu of wheat along the lake street in Tongshan District, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. "More than 20,000 mu of wheat can be sprayed once in 3 days!" said Yao Huanzhao, head of the Plant Protection Station of the District Agriculture and Rural Bureau.

Tongshan is one of the "first batch of 50 counties (cities) of commodity grain bases in the country", and has been rated as "National Advanced Counties for Grain Production" for many times. Right now is a critical period for the prevention and control of wheat scab, powdery mildew, aphids and other diseases and insect pests. Tongshan insists on both epidemic prevention and control and agricultural production.

Liu Jianzhong, director of the Tongshan District Agriculture and Rural Bureau, said that the bureau invested 3.25 million yuan to purchase pesticides for the prevention and control of wheat scab, and supplied them free of charge to large growers, cooperatives and family farms, etc., and coordinated the transportation department to apply for passes for agricultural materials transportation vehicles. Vehicles are connected to expressway intersections. The towns and streets are equipped with 452 self-propelled boom sprayers and 269 plant protection drones, and more than 80% of the wheat fields are sprayed mechanically. Up to now, all the 913,000 mu of wheat in the region has completed a mixed spraying of medicine and fertilizer, and the "one spraying and three prevention" has not been affected by the epidemic.

"At present, the area of vegetables in the region is about 115,000 mu, and the average daily output of Tangzhang Town, Zhangji Town, Sanbao Street, Huangji Town, and Xinqu Street, which have relatively large vegetable yields, is about 2,000 tons. The planting area and output are stable. With abundant varieties and no major price fluctuations, vegetable farmers will not have a problem with increasing yields this year!" Liu Jianzhong said.
